What I’ve Done So Far
I began my career as a corporate accountant which I quickly discovered was not for me. If you can imagine staring at the same spreadsheet everyday and then staring at it more ‘vigorously’ at quarter-end, that’s about the gist of it (no offense to my accounting friends).
From there, I moved into marketing and joined my first startup, Payzer, as Director of Marketing. We launched some really successful, non-standard campaigns that helped us grow in our market and creatively leveraged our competitive advantages
This began my love of the early-stage startup phase where ‘guerrilla’ marketing strategies were not only accepted, but encouraged.
Granted, some of this included creating thousands of unique landing pages for a single campaign (true story), but it was fun and it worked.
I found my way into product and data through a meeting of two things: my newest fixation of juxtaposing interesting (to me) data with visuals / marketing and data as a product in general.
This first came in the form of a Tableau-based portal specific to our channel partners and connecting them to the customer base that we both serve. It included market-level and user-level insights based on the billions of records we generate each year but predominately it brought data to a group who had been operating on anecdotes and opinions.
Since then, I’ve worked with a team of data engineers to overhaul our reporting platform, boost performance and insight gains, and wrap it in an AI product.
